SSL certification authorities guarantee end users that transaction amounts and data reach the company they are sent to. This guarantee could, for example, be useful in case of false or improperly issued SSL certificates. The guaranteed amount is the maximum amount refunded to end users if they suffer clear damage from incorrectly issued certificates.
The guarantee is valid only for certificates not listed on the CRL (Certificate Revocation List), a list managed by certification authorities and containing revoked certificates. Current browsers automatically compare certificates with the CRL.
For certificates involving company information verification, this information is also included in the certificate itself. Web site visitors can use it to easily verify the owner of the web site. Customers can rest assured that the owner identity is correct. Owner identity is verified according to certificate authority procedures.
When certificates do not contain company information, customers run the risk that the web site has a different owner than expected. This might occur, for example, if a domain name strongly resembles another web site. Without company information in the certificate, customers have greater difficulty identifying the owner of a web site.
We recommend to make a backup of your certificate, together with the private key, after installing a certificate. In case of web server problems you can always use the backup to restore the certificate. In case you loose the private key, Realtime Register can re-issue your web server certificates free of charge. You will be sent a new certificate, based on a new private key created by you.
The domain name for which you request an SSL certificate is always applied with and without the 'www.' prefix.
If you want to use multiple subdomain names, you can request a wildcard-certificate. For a Comodo EV SSL certificate you request a new certificate for each subdomain.
An SSL certificate is only considered valid if it is signed by a root certificate appearing in the list of known root certificates of the browsers. Current browsers support all root certificates of the certificates we provide.
All our certificates are supplied with 128 and 256 bit encryption. Which encryption is used depends on the browser, the web server and the private key size. To enable 256 bit encryption we recommend to use a minimum private key size of 2048 bits.
The specified delivery time applies during office hours. More than 99% of the requested certificates are delivered within this time frame.
A wildcard certificate permits unlimited use of subdomain names. This may be useful if separate sections of the web site use SSL encryption.
For example:If a wildcard certificate is installed on more than one server, $ 15,- per year is charged for each additional server installation.
