Our systems will be down for updates to our backend, database and webinterface next Thursday 15-03-2007 from 07.00 to 11.00 (GMT+1).

After several months of development, we will be launching version 1.0 of our backend. The platform has been revised on several components and a number of small and large bugs have been fixed as well. The most important reason for this update has been the change in our handle system. After the launch of the current version on 22-10-2004, we have had several dealers saying that it was not convenient to use the contact email address as a handle. It wasn't possible to change the handle system, without changing the whole platform, which resulted in the decision in July 2006 for developing version 1.0. Because several registries changed their interfaces as well in the past months (for instance SIDN and nic.AT), it took us longer then we expected.

We have planned a 4-hour downtime window next Thursday, 15th of march, in which the several components will be updated. Our systems will not be available between 07.00 and 11.00 (GMT +1), and we will not be available by phone either, to make sure we will be back online as soon as possible. You will receive a reminder just before the start of the maintenance. We will sent out an email if we exceed our planned 4-hour window as well. We will also sent out an email when the system becomes available again.

-= Short description of updates in version 1.0 =-

As you may know, our platform allows you to create contacts to be used in several roles with a domain registration (registrant/admin/tech/billing). These contacts are identified by a unique handle, which is currently the email address. In version 1.0 it is no longer required to use the email address as a handle. This prevents you of creating a new contact because the email address of the contact has changed and allows you to use one email address for several companies or individuals as well.

The handle in version 1.0 must be created using the following characters:
- Chars: a tot z
- Chars: A tot Z
- Numbers: 0 tot 9
- Chars: - . _ @
Minimum length is 3, maximum is 40 chars.

We will convert all existing handles to new handles in version 1.0, which will still consist of the email address used at the time of creation. This handle will however not be used as an email address, we have added an email field to the contact for this matter. This email field can be updated using contact update.

Several dealers have approached us about our xml interface implementation in the last year. We have explained that we were working on a major update, and that it's best to wait for version 1.0. This way we have prevented dealers to be obligated of updating their interface next Thursday as well. It wasn't possible for us to be running the old and the new interface side by side. We will contact every dealer which has already approached us individually, to inform them about our xml implementation, after the 15th of March. If you are also interested, contact us after that date and we will be happy to send you our documentation when it has been finalized. This documentation will also become available on our website in the near future.

As we have mentioned before, our web interface will be altered as well. Below you will find the most important updates:

- Create/update contact: handle field added (can not be altered after creation)
- Create/update contact: email field added (can be updated)
- Create/update contact: order of fields altered

- Domain registrations: Domain lock added
- Domain registrations: Registration period (years) deleted

- Domain renewal: Registration period (years) deleted

- Domain transfer list: Only pending transfers (standard)
- Domain transfer list: Search option for all/pending/closed transfer

- Domain availability check: Option added for registering domains by checking the boxes of available domains

- Create/update profile: Automatic locking of domains (used only for new registrations in the webinterface)

- Menu item search added: search in contacts, registrations and transfers
- Menu item .EU deleted: .EU has become a normal cc-TLD

Version 1.0 will give us the opportunity to extend our services in the future. We will be introducing additional (cc-)TLD's, whether or not there are fully automated. For new release we will be able to prevent downtime and offer the old and new version for a certain period, so dealer have time to update their systems. We will be keeping you updated about these extra features and additions!

Ultimately, we would like to thank all dealers for providing us with feedback on the platform. We are always looking to improve our services and interfaces. Not every whish can be fulfilled, but we will take your opinion and suggestion seriously into consideration. Version 1.0 is partly the result of this feedback.

.BE maintenance

Because of the introduction of a new registration interface, .BE domain registration will not be available starting midnight on the 30th of November .BE registration will be possible in the morning of the 4th of December 2006.

Because of planned maintenance, ns2.12register.com will be unavailable on tuesday 31st of October, between 07.00 and 09.00 GMT +1. This can cause difficulties with for example .nl registrations.

In the early morning of october 17th, there will be a short maintenance window at our servers, due to a hardware upgrade. The expected downtime will be 30 minutens, between 06.00 en 07.00 (GMT +1). We apologize for any inconvenience.
